Sedation Dentistry
SEDATION DENTISTRY
Fear Free Dentistry
Anxiety during dental treatment can cause stress and discomfort in you and lead to dental treatment avoidance. This eventually aggravates the damage to your oral health. In this context, effective control of anxiety plays a pivotal role in your compliance to dental treatment.
We advocate our patients discussing their dental anxiety in their consultation visit, so that we can provide them with this solution and they can comfortably undergo the dental procedure thus reducing their anxiety for future visits. The dosages are tailored to your weight.

Oral Sedation
We advocate the use of an Oral Sedative to our patients who experince a lot of anxiety. This is taken in the form of a pill 40 min – 1 hour before your dental procedure . It provides minimal to moderate sedation without putting you to sleep. The dosages are tailored to your weight.
For adults, a different class of medications such as benzodiazepines are used whereas for children non barbituate class of drugs are generally used in syrup form.

IV Sedation
This form of sedation is injected directly into the bloodstream. It has immediate effects, and patients often feel as if they slept through their procedure. Many feel groggy or sleepy afterward. This induces even profound anesthesia. We only recommend those in few cases of trauma to the face , disimpactions being performed on both the quadrants, and etc.
Precautions
We recommend IV sedation only in few cases of trauma to the face, or disimpactions being performed on both the quadrants
- With both forms of sedation, the patient needs to be accompanied with someone to the clinic and back
- For 8 hours after IV sedation, there can be no driving or any kind of work involving fine motor skills
Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
Many people worry about the risks of sedation dentistry, but the chances of complications are minimal when done correctly.
We take several precautions to ensure sedation dentistry is safe. Before administering sedation, we review your medical history, check for allergies, and assess any medications you are taking. During the procedure, we monitor your vital signs such as heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure to prevent complications.
Sedation dentistry is generally safe when administered by a trained and experienced dentist. The level of sedation used is carefully tailored to the patient’s health, medical history, and anxiety levels.
The most common side effects, like drowsiness or mild nausea, are temporary.
