Wisdom tooth removal in Roorkee

When a wisdom tooth needs to come out
Not every wisdom tooth has to be removed. One that is stuck in the jaw (impacted) but causing no problems can be left where it is. Removal is usually advised when:
- the gum around it keeps getting infected (pericoronitis)
- it is decaying, or causing decay in the tooth next to it
- an abscess has formed around it
- a cyst has formed around it, which is rare
Before the removal
Dr Bajaj examines the tooth and takes an X-ray. The clinic has a digital X-ray for single teeth. If the tooth is deeply buried or lies close to the nerve in the lower jaw, she may ask for a full-mouth X-ray (OPG) or a 3D scan (CBCT), which is taken at an imaging centre.
On the day
The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic. We use DentalVibe, a small device that vibrates gently near the injection site, so the injection is more comfortable. You feel pressure as the tooth is loosened, but no sharp pain. Some teeth need a small cut in the gum, and some are taken out in pieces.
If you are nervous, you can have oral sedation, a medicine taken by mouth that relaxes you. IV sedation is also available, but wisdom tooth removal is a small procedure and seldom needs it.
The appointment takes between 45 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the tooth.
After the removal
You come back twice, three days after the removal and seven days after.
